🛕 About the Temple

Thekkekonam Sri Durga Bhagavathi Temple
A Sacred Abode of Divine Energy & Tradition

🌿 Ancient Roots, Serpent Blessings

Thekkekonam was originally a revered sacred grove (kaavu), sanctified by the divine presence of serpents (nagas) for centuries. About four decades ago, the divine inspiration to construct a temple for Goddess Durga was born.

The initiative was led by the then temple trustee, the late Appukuttan Nair, under whose guidance the first steps were taken to transform the grove into a powerful spiritual center.

🔮 Astrological Revelation & Divine Guidance

According to the astrological reading by Sri Nanu Jyotsyar of Attuvassery, the exact spot where the Goddess’s energy resided was identified. He advised constructing a shrine at that location and performing proper tantric rituals for consecration.

  • A shrine was built for Goddess Durga
  • Separate consecrations were done for Nagar (serpent deity) and Naga Raksha
  • A new temple was also constructed for Lord Ganesha

Idols were brought from Mayiladuthurai, Tamil Nadu, and the main consecration was led by Sri Lakshmi Narayanan Potty of Kunnathukal, the temple's tantric priest.

Sub-deities like Lord Shasta and Thampuran Mantramoorthy were also installed.

🕉️ Rituals & Devotional Practices

  • Monthly Pournami Pooja (Full Moon Worship)
  • Ayilyam Pooja (linked to serpent worship)
  • 7-day annual festival beginning on Pooruruttathi Nakshatra (Medam month)

All major rituals are led by devotees who undertake the sacred ritual of Kaappu.

Lord Krishna faces west, while Goddess Durga offers darshan from the opposite direction. A serene pond (jalashayam) enhances the divine ambiance in front of the temple.

🛕 Reconstruction Guided by the Divine

In 2009, during an Ashtamangala Deva Prasnam conducted by astrologer Sri Surya Venkitesh, it was revealed that the temple needed to be relocated to the northwest of the original site.

Following divine instruction, in 2010 (Medam month, star Rohini), the new temple was consecrated under the leadership of Brahmashri Arangadi Vasudeva Patteri.
